Use the image from this link for your monohybrid genetics problem:  Punnett Square

Use the template from this link to complete the following di-hybrid crossess:

Use to T represent the tall characteristic for pea plants and t to represent the short trait.  Use N to represent the purple color and n to represent the color white.

1.  Complete the cross between a heterozygous tall, white pea plant and a plant that is short and homozygous purple.

    A)   Show the parent plants' genotypes, each set of gamete alleles, and the genotypes of the offspring.

    B)   Give the phenotype ratio for the offspring.

Practice Genetics Quiz:

GENETICS QUIZ

  1. Who is considered the father of genetics?

       If  T = tall and   t = short

        Then:

      2. How would you write the genotype for a heterozygous plant?

  1. What is the phenotype of a plant that has ( t t ) as its genotype?

  1. The contrasting form for a gene is called a (an) _______.

  1. If an organism has the exact same letters in its genotype it is called ________.

        If   A = black fur and   A’ = white fur

        Then:

      6. Having a genotype of (A A’) for gray fur would indicate what type of inheritance?

If  A = black fur and    B = white   and     A  and B are co-dominant

Then:

7.  A hamster with a genotype of   ( AB ) would have a phenotype that is ________________.

  1.  Show a Punnett Square for a mother, who has A type blood crossed with a dad, who has  B type blood.  Their children have a 50% chance of having blood type AB, and a 50% chance of having blood type B.  Complete the parents’ genotypes.

  If     H = long fur and     h = short fur

 Then:

  1. Show a Punnett Square that crosses a heterozygous long furred hamster with a hamster that has short fur.

  1. Give the genotype ratio for problem # 9.

   * Bonus (3pts)

         If     H = long fur              h = short fur               and

                 A = spots                  a = solid

         Then:

         Cross a heterozygous long furred, solid colored hamster with a hamster that short

         furred and heterozygous for spots.

1.      Show the parents’ genotypes, 2. the square of the offspring, and the 3. phenotype ratio.
